School & Group Programs

School Programs Every summer we plan and provide programs for groups from schools, universities, youth and community organizations. Although each of these programs are different, designed to meet the needs and goals of each group, they share the common thread of wilderness canoe trips with an emphasis on group process and self-discovery. Options range from a 5 day trip on lake Temagami to a 5 week adventure in the sub-arctic. We can provide complete packages including transportation to and from your door, great food, equipment and guides. Prices are reasonable, generally less than our open enrollment program.

Over the last 15 years we have worked with many Waldorf Schools, Private Schools, High Schools and Universities including:

  • The Chicago Waldorf School
  • Ann Arbor Rudolph Steiner School
  • The Detroit Waldorf School
  • The Toronto Waldorf School
  • The Ottawa Waldorf School
  • The East Harlem School, New York, New York
  • Fox Lane High School, Bedford, New York
  • The Sterling Hall School, Toronto, Ontario
  • Pennsylvania State University

Please contact us to discuss possibilities and obtain a proposal or schedule a presentation for your group.

The Burke Trip

Burke Trip Campers The Burke A. O’Brien Memorial Fund and Deepwater Experiential Education Project offers a program each summer in partnership with Northwaters & Langskib Wilderness Programs. Burke was a longtime staff member and dedicated wilderness educator at Northwaters & Langskib. His work touched countless young people over the years, helping them to find inner strength, to face challenges with courage, trust themselves and to see the joy in everyday.

The Burke Trip is a two week long wilderness program which incorporates the elements of a Northwaters & Langskib wilderness canoe trip—connection to the land, leadership, personal growth and community building adapted to work specifically with the group of young people that are identified and nominated to attend this program.

Applicants for the Burke trip are young men and women between the ages of 14-16 who have been identified as leaders in their own communities, or as having strong potential to become leaders. They should exhibit a strong desire to positively contribute to the program, as well as an intention to bring home the lessons of their experience to schools, families and communities.

For more information on this special program or to nominate an applicant please contact Raurie O’Brien at RAUR17@hotmail.com. To support the Burke Endowment Fund, please visit the Deepwater Experiential Education Project website.
